Moscow police have thwarted the activities of two groups of baggage thieves in the city’s Sheremetyevo Airport, the Gazeta.ru online daily reported on Tuesday.  

The daily quoted the head of the airport police department, Alexander Chaplygin, as saying that the thieves worked as baggage handlers. They worked both on domestic and international flights and each group had two or three incidents of theft on their record, the official said. Each time, passengers complained of damages of up to 100,000 rubles (about $3000), he said.  

The policeman added that law enforcement uncovered six such groups at Sheremetyevo last year.
